Pregnancy:consuming fruit would promote the intelligence of the child

To have a healthy baby, you have to take care of yourself, be careful and eat healthy. Common sense obliges, one would have suspected it. On the other hand, what we do not always know is that the diet of the future mother has an impact on baby, even before he has shown the tip of his nose. Canadian researchers have established a link between fruit consumption and infant intellectual abilities.

A study with amazing results

To reach such conclusions, 3,600 pregnant women were observed between 2008 and 2012. All had included the consumption of fruit and/or 100% fruit juice in their diet, each in different quantities. Portions amounted to a maximum of six or seven fruits per day. One year after their birth, the 688 children who fulfilled the criteria to enter the study took part in a series of tests:communication, health, social behaviour, etc. Result:the more fruit the mothers had consumed during pregnancy, the more the Their baby's IQ was high (5 points higher compared to others). And if other criteria were taken into account during this study, such as the family's salary, the level of education of the mother, the consumption of vitamins or even breastfeeding or not at birth, it fruit consumption was at the top of the list of factors associated with a child's cognitive development, according to Piush Mandhane, professor of pediatrics and lead author of the study.

Beware, however, of overconsumption:fruit is good for your health, but it's like everything, you shouldn't abuse it. Professor Mandhane thus recalls that a frugivorous diet increases the level of sugars in the blood and therefore the risk of diabetes and weight gain (we will do without it!). So what do we do ? While waiting for the follow-up to this isolated study (to confirm or not the results obtained), it is better to stick to the French recommendations:5 fruits and vegetables per day. Bon appetit!
