In Scotland, it is illegal to smoke in the car with your child

We all know that tobacco is not only dangerous for smokers, it is also dangerous for those who inhale the smoke without wanting to. In fact, according to the World Health Organization, more than 600,000 people die each year from passive smoking. And if for some people not to smoke in their car when their child is there seems obvious, this is not the case for everyone. A new law prohibiting smoking in your car in the presence of your child has just come into force in Scotland.

Tobacco-free generation

Those who do not respect this law will have to pay a fine of 100 pounds (about 119 euros) on the spot and the amount could increase up to 1000 pounds (about 1170 euros) if the case were to pass before a tribunal. A similar law exists in France, but the sanction is far from being as severe:the fine ranging from 68 to 450 euros. Scotland passed this law as part of its government's Tobacco Free Generation plan, which aims to reduce the number of smokers to less than 5% by 2034. Hope it works!
