Women suffer more from the effects of fatigue than men

One in three people suffers from sleep disorders and it seems that its repercussions affect the daily lives of men and women differently. This is in any case what reveals an Australian study published Tuesday, May 23, 2017 in the journal Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine . As we know, the effects of a lack of sleep are disastrous. Depression, irritability, drowsiness, difficulty concentrating, memory or even difficulty falling asleep… And these side effects linked to sleep disorders would be more important in women than in men. To reach this conclusion, the Australian researchers looked at the case of 744 patients, followed for sleep problems at the Coolangatta clinic in Queensland (Australia), between 2013 and 2015. Result:49% of women would be prone drowsiness during a restless night versus 36.9% for men.

Prevention is better than cure

The study also points out that women are more likely to feel excessively tired, depressed and in loss of concentration. In the same way, even if snoring wakes women just as well as men, the female sex tends to demand that their “snoring” partner leaves the room. Going forward, this work will improve levels of prevention by healthcare professionals with the aim of improving the quality of life of people with sleep disorders and related effects. And we do not forget, to fall into the arms of Morpheus more easily:we favor slow sugars, we eat at least two hours before bedtime, we avoid caffeine and above all, we go to bed early!
